Fencing builds from your home club outward. You earn points and experience at each level, and strong results open the door to the next one.
Start close to home. Build experience and earn your first rating at club and Virginia Division events.
ROC, RJCC and RYC events earn regional qualifying points toward national championships.
SYC, SJCC and North American Cup (NAC) events earn national points at the top level of domestic competition.
Qualify for the Junior Olympics and Summer Nationals — the season’s biggest stages.
At national events, points go to the top 40% of the field. At regional events, every placement earns points from a set formula — try the calculator below. A fencer’s best results count toward qualification, and your coach will help you choose the right events at the right time.
What’s the ROC?
The Regional Open Circuit (ROC) is built for the Division I-A fencer who wants competition beyond the local and division level but below the national NAC Division I level. ROC events also run Division II, Division III and Veteran categories, so there’s a place for nearly everyone.
Your finish earns regional qualifying points toward Summer Nationals — calculated from where you place in the field rather than a top-40% cutoff (try the points calculator below) — and a strong result can move up your classification, too. ROCs are run by local clubs under USA Fencing sanction, and all competitors need a current USA Fencing competitive membership.
