Common Questions

Archery FAQ

Do I need my own bow to start?

No. All equipment is provided for Try Archery and Explore Archery classes. Once you move into the JOAD or Adult programs, you'll need your own bow and arrows. Equipment rental is available at $35/month, and our pro shop can help you find and set up the right gear.

What age can my child start archery?

Explore Archery is available for ages 8 and up. Try Archery (single session) is for ages 13 and up. There is no upper age limit — we have archers from 8 to 80+.

Do I need a USA Archery membership?

A USA Archery Recreational membership is required for Explore Archery participants. JOAD and Adult program members need a USA Archery JOAD or Family membership. Youth under 18 can get a free trial membership from USA Archery. Nova also requires a $260 annual club membership for ongoing programs (JOAD, Adult, Open Range, private lessons).

What is JOAD?

JOAD stands for Junior Olympic Archery Development. It's a USA Archery program for archers ages 8–20 that provides structured coaching, achievement awards, and a pathway to competition. Nova's JOAD program coaches barebow, Olympic recurve, and compound disciplines.

What disciplines do you teach?

We coach barebow, Olympic recurve, and compound archery. Our coaches will help you find the right discipline for your goals and preferences, whether recreational or competitive.

Can adults join who have never shot before?

Yes. Try Archery is specifically designed for adult beginners (13+). It's a single session — no commitment required. From there, you can move into the Adult Archery program at your own pace. Age is not a factor in getting started.

Do you have an archery pro shop?

Yes — and it’s open to the public. Our on-site pro shop carries bows, arrows, and accessories from trusted brands, with full bow setup, tuning, and repair from an ATA Certified Bow Tech. Visit the pro shop page →

What are your archery range hours?

Open Range is available during scheduled hours for members of the JOAD and Adult Achievement programs. Check the online schedule for current Open Range times. The club is open Monday–Friday 4:00–9:00 PM, Saturday & Sunday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.
